San Diego SUP – Mission Bay
I’ve never been a water person, but spending time exploring places I can’t really reach on foot, like islands, marshes, and hidden inlets, has always appealed to me. And since my wife has fallen in love with SUPping, it makes sense for me to jump into it as well.
This was my third time out on the board, and the second time paddling in San Diego. I got in my morning block of work (1.5 hours), and then headed down to Mission Bay. We started at De Anza Cove, where the water was smooth and glassy (a good place to start since I’m still getting used to this), before working our way south into the open seas of Mission Bay. We crossed over towards Fiesta Island, before paddling further south toward Enchanted Isle, before turning back up.

With each time I’ve been SUPping, I’ve gotten a little more comfortable, and I’ve found that I really enjoy times where I take a little break, sit on the board with my feet in the water, and just relaxing as the waves gently rock me.
We stopped for burritos on the way back home, and I was back to work by 1pm. This is perhaps a good option for midweek adventure, so I think I’ll be putting some more of these on the calendar.
