Sometimes It’s OK to Just Sit
I had bigger plans for the weekend—longer rides, some exploring of new areas. But who knows what I’ll actually end up doing today. Riding my bike around hot desert backroads is rapidly falling down the list. Right now, I’m drinking my Sunday morning coffee, looking at one of the few trees around, hiding from the sun in a small patch of shade. And it’s all quite lovely.

Yesterday was probably the better day for getting out on the mountain bike anyway. And I did—not quite to the level I’d originally planned (just a few miles up the road here), but my afternoon turned out to be kind of blissful. I spent it reading a book (which I almost never do), making food, and just watching the sun sink lower and lower in the sky.
Today, I had a couple of rides planned, but I can already feel the sun heating up the landscape. So for now, I’m going to enjoy this patch of shade. Maybe I’ll end up riding later, or take it slow on my drive back and do a quick loop or two higher up in the hills. Or maybe I’ll just hang out here, drifting from one shady spot to the next.
But for now, I’m content just watching this tree, sipping my coffee, and reveling in a day full of options.
