Dash Dashboard Design Drafts

By Forrest Smith - Drempd.com

I’ve been diligently working on a new version of my freelancer note, list, and schedule tacker, Dash (previously known as Vimsio). While the initial and now archived version was web based, the newer version is built as a desktop app (hopefully eventually a mobile app as well).

A large chunk of the code base has been brought over from the earlier days, but I have decided to rewrite the list functionality for the new platform. Things are starting to come together though, and perhaps within a few weeks I’ll be able to use this new version for my own planning, brainstorming, and tracking purposes.

Since I’ve been doing quite a bit of heavy coding, and since I’m nearing a point where I’ll be personally using the new app, I’ve decided to distracted myself with some design, at least for a couple days. The goal eventually is to have at least two, maybe three skins that will be release with the first version, ideally something dark, something light, and something in between.

The initial dark version is aiming for something futuristic. I’ll develop these further, but so far I’m liking the feel. I could also see creating main templates, with some sort of option for additional sub-variants to offer further customization. For instance, I’m using the yellows quite a bit in this draft, but this could look really cool with the dark with cyan accents, or greens, or even reds.

Another version, probably something in between the light and dark options.

I’ll likely implement a first version of the darker themed one relatively quickly, just enough so I can begin using the app and moving things forward.
