UX & Web Design #6 – Conference Website Hero, Highlighting Content for Biotech

By Forrest Smith - Drempd.com

Recently I’ve been working more on cleaning up and beautifying a conference website — updating the hero section and a few other home page elements, along with a module for a biotech company looking to highlight some of the positive work that their product makes possible.

Highlighting Important Content for a Biotech Company

We wanted to highlight studies and datasets from biologists who use our client’s product, and so we created a new module that makes it easy to add this information to existing pages.

I didn’t want to make the section distract too much from other content on the page, but definitely wanted to create some eye-catching elements. Each tile can highlight its own press release, along with a quote from the study authors.

Conference Website Hero Section

It’s another year, and another tech and marketing conference website. Over the years, we’ve streamlined the entire build, and so it’s a fairly straightforward setup process, but we always swap out the home page hero for something new and fresh.

We settled on this version for this year’s website — it’s actually super-simple, but has a bit of the futuristic tech feel, along with a small announcement area that they can update as needed.

I was looking through older home page heroes for other conferences I’ve worked on in the past, and came across this one from a few years ago. It was never actually used, but I really like the graphic elements, the image fading off into the page, and just the overall feeling of boldness and irregularity. It’s not just your boring, rectangular hero section. I like a lot of aspects from this year’s, but I’m never completely sold on hard, straight lines screaming across the page, which many hero sections fall prey to (this year’s conference included).
